Quote from Alexej, the 10 yr. old energizer bunny we teach who doesn't believe in the resurrection because stuff like that only happens in movies:
Alexej: (after standing up and sitting down, even laying on the floor during sacrament, front row) This church is horribly boring!!
sister Aguilar: Are you coming back next week?
Alexej: of course!!!
Sorry this picture is sideways.... We took Junior to Temple square on saturday and he loved it. We had a miracle on monday- Junior was unsure about getting baptized but his grandma (a less-active member in the spanish ward) and 12 yr. old sister sat in on the lesson. He agreed to a baptismal date of March 1st when his whole fmaily could be there and his little sister said she wants to take the lessons so she can follow his example! He is quiet but thinks deeply and knows that he wants to make this decision and set the example for his family. He knows Joseph Smith is a prophet and thinks a mission sounds "cool". His dad bought him church clothes and shoes and he was so excited to wear them sunday! His dad speaks spanish better than english so hopefully being at the baptism will soften his heart to listen to the spanish sisters. Sadly Junior doesn't speak spanish very well so an english ward was better for him. This happens a lot in the states and it's sad because families end up going to separate wards but we do what we can!
Friday night I had a dream that Raydeen was siting at the baptism in her white jumpsuit all ready to go and Marta wasn't there yet. When they got to the church on saturday morning I only saw raydeen and she told us Marta had made a run for it. As you can see, it was a joke, and the two of them were just ecstatic the whole time. The spirit was strong and while they were getting changed we showed Because of Him, the church's Easter video from last year. I hadn't seen it for a while and I was again hit with the reality of our savior's life and atonement. I know He lives and I feel like I can sincerely say that I love him now. The more I study his life, the more I;m amazed at how perfect he was. I am trying to become more like Him and the closer I get the more apparent that gap between him and me seems. That is what his grace is for right? We do all we can and he makes up the rest. I know that his grace is sufficient for all who come unto him, are baptized in his name, receive the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end:) 2 Nephi 31:20 will always be one of my favorite scriptures. I am excited to see what becomes of these two amazing women who have sacrificed so much for this gospel! Marta had to work from 10 P.M. to 6 A.M. sunday morning and was bright and cheery for her confirmation at 9 A.M.
Overall this week I am grateful that the Lord makes us low so he can lift us higher. I think I'm more aware of my weaknesses this transfer than ever before but it has been one of the happiest and best transfers of my life. I am working on things I never knew I needed to work on, and as it says in Ether 12:27, if we come unto God and show our weaknesses he will help us make them into strengths. Remember that when you feel inadequate, God wants us to be continually improving but never discouraged with who we are! Rejoice in the progress you have made:) Love you all!
Love,
Sister Pearson
From left to right Marta and Raydeen her mom! Raydeen said "It's a good thing these aren't orange..."
With the Davis family, they've been such great friends and examples to them during this process!
Luisa, one of the women we're teaching, has a mother who joined the church 2 years ago and fed us and the spanish sisters el salvadorian food. Me gusta pupusa!
oops claudine wasn't looking... Nicole is a girl in the 3rd ward whose dad won't let her get baptized but she wanted to come do missionary work with us anyway!
